A Different Process
Pascolo is the newest leather to join the Bosca family, and it starts with bull hide. That's a deliberate choice, bull hide brings real strength to the leather from the outset, the kind of structure that holds up to daily use without a fight. What's less expected is how that strength translates in hand: soft, easy to carry, and light enough that you forget how tough it actually is underneath. It's a leather built to feel effortless.
The choice wasn't arbitrary. Chrome tanning uses chromium salts rather than plant tannins, and it works fast, a hide can go from raw to finished in a day or two instead of a month or more. That speed comes with a different set of strengths: chrome-tanned leather takes color more evenly, resists water and heat better straight off the line, and starts soft instead of needing years to get there. Every Marziari piece gets its shape from precise, structured stitching, so the leather itself needed to sit clean along every seam and line rather than resist it. Pascolo does exactly that, and it's a fundamentally different material than the vegetable-tanned leathers that make up the rest of the Bosca line.
The Bull Hide Difference
Then there's the hide itself. Pascolo comes from bull hide, sourced from older, larger animals than the calfskin most fashion leather is cut from. Where calfskin typically runs under a millimeter and a half thick and comes off animals well under a year old, hide from mature cattle runs thicker and holds more character across the board, the kind of raw material that holds up to structure without needing to be padded or reinforced to get there. Chrome tanning is what makes that bull hide soft enough to carry comfortably, while still holding four colorways that stay consistent from the first piece we made to the last: Black, Espresso, Indigo Blue, and Sand. We didn't have a leather like Pascolo sitting around waiting to be used. We built it for this collection specifically, and it won't necessarily stay there.
